Family Portrait: A Thousand Eyes for Three / Тисяча очей на двоїхCollection: 2026. Constructed Meadow In this work, the pineapple appears as a family totem. Botanically, it is not a single fruit but a combination of many individual elements fused into one form - much like a family, in which different personalities coexist within a shared body. Its “thousand eyes” symbolize the collective family gaze: a complex web of love, memory, expectations, and control through which individual identity is shaped. The work was inspired by a Filipino folktale I read as a child. In the story, a girl who could not find a needle was transformed into a plant with a thousand eyes. Over time, the details of the tale faded from my memory, but the image of those thousand eyes has remained with me throughout my life. |
